New Treatment for Underarms sweating Tumescent Liposuction & Dermal Curettage |
Both non surgical and surgical treatments have been developed to control hyperhidrosis. Non surgical methods include topical antiperspirants, deodorants, and prescription drugs. The effect is temporary and limited. BOTOX intradermal injection is very effective but has to be repeated every 4 – 12 months for lifetime. Old surgical methods are effective but have many disadvantages. Not only these procedures are done in the hospital under general anesthesia, they accompanied by serious complications including compensatory sweating in other areas of the body (uncontrolled sweat of the lower half of the body), Horner’s syndrome (drop of the eyelid and enophthalmos), pneumothorax, hemothorax, rhinitis, neuralgia, scarring, and infection. Tumescent liposuction suction and curettage is the newest and most advanced treatment. It has emerged as the preferred therapy for axillary hyperhidrosis. This is a minimally invasive procedure with very high success rate and faster recovery, but with no significant complications or scarring. This technique is performed under local tumescent anesthesia in the office using fluid containing saline, bicarbonate, epinephrine and lidocaine as the only source of pain control. |
